Penn State Altoona graduate named as Alumni Fellow

William J. Castle, a 1966 graduate of Penn State Altoona and native of Altoona, has been selected as a recipient of the 2004 Penn State Alumni Fellow Award, the most prestigious award given by the Penn State Alumni Association. Established in 1973, the Alumni Fellow program is administered in cooperation with each of Penn State's colleges. The award is given to Penn State alumni who have been recognized as leaders in their fields and notable contributors to society and their communities. The fifth Penn State Altoona nominee to be selected for the award, Castle is owner, president and founder of The CASTLE Group in Lumberton, N.J. He is responsible for all general and administrative operations of the firm and supervision of all structural engineering and diving operations, including design and inspection of bridges, and other marine structures. Castle is an active Licensed Professional Engineer in the states of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland and Florida. A certified commercial diver, Castle has performed more than 1,500 underwater inspections of bridges, piers, bulkheads, docks, outfall structures and other marine structures. He is a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association and member of Penn State Altoona's Development Council. He also recently established a Trustee Scholarship at Penn State Altoona, which will benefit students majoring in engineering at the campus.
