Voting for 2005 Senior Class Gift begins Oct. 25

Beginning Oct. 25, Penn State seniors will once again have the opportunity to determine their legacy by selecting one of three campus improvement projects as their class gift to the University.

After considering proposals submitted since the semester began, the Senior Class Gift Committee has selected three for ballot:

-Gateway at North Atherton Street and Curtin Road: The Gateway will welcome students, faculty, staff and visitors into one of the newest entries to campus, designed to complement the style and materials of the nearby Nittany Lion Inn and Rec Hall. It will be located in a highly visible part of campus through which many motorists and pedestrians travel daily.

-Park Benches for Campus Historic District: Benches will be installed on the Pattee and Henderson malls in keeping with the new historical shepard's crook lamps (a gift of the 2001 senior class and the Penn State Alumni Association). Current benches (the gift of the class of 1900) along the malls that are in disrepair or that have been removed will be replaced, and additional benches may be installed in other historic areas if funding allows.

-HUB-Robeson Center Sesquicentennial Commemorative Piece: Plans are underway for reconstruction and improvement of the HUB lawn, intended to make the student center of campus more accessible and useful. This gift would add a design element to this project and to the HUB Robeson Terrace (the gift of the class of 1998). The gift would be intended to honor Penn State's 150 years by marking the evolution of the University, bringing beauty and history to an area on campus that is used daily by students.

Voting for the 2005 Penn State senior class gift will take place Monday, Oct. 25, through Friday, Oct. 29. Seniors can vote in person and enter a prize drawing from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the following locations:

• Monday through Friday - HUB Ground Floor
• Monday and Wednesday - Student Bookstore (downtown)
• Tuesday - Willard Building Patio Area
• Thursday - Pattee Library Mall Entrance Plaza

In addition, seniors can vote online at http://www.seniorclassgift.psu.edu 24 hours a day (from 8 a.m. Tuesday through 5 p.m. Friday).

"We selected this year's options because we feel that they will appropriately honor the University with their timelessness and endearing design," said Amanda Reinitz, overall chair of the 2005 Senior Class Gift Committee.

The ballot selection committee is comprised of faculty, staff and students, and led by Megan Collins, ballot selection chair. The committee chose the three proposals from 30 submitted by the University community. The winning proposal will be announced during the week following the ballotting.

The 2005 Senior Class Gift Committee includes Amanda Reinitz, overall chair; Megan Collins, ballot selection chair; Blair Dempster, ad/public relations chair; Danielle Pitcher, Web/It chair; Teri Rosenberg, fundraising chair; and Bryan Wright, voting chair.
