University Health Services offers online chats about difficult topics

University Park, Pa. -- University Health Services (UHS) is hosting a series of online chats this fall on topics students may not feel comfortable discussing in person. The "Chat with UHS" electronic forum enables students to ask questions anonymously or to "listen and learn." UHS staff moderates all discussions.

The next chat on Thursday, Oct. 28, from 8 to 9 p.m. is about men's health.

According to recent studies, men tend to drive faster, engage in more violent behavior, take their own lives more often, have more sexual partners, and take greater risks at work and in play. What aspects of masculinity lead men to be more likely to die of trauma? Are there other more subtle ways that men abuse their bodies? Students can chat anonymously with a male clinician and a health educator about what puts men at risk for a number of health concerns and what they can do to reduce their risks and improve their health. To participate in the chat, go to http://www.sa.psu.edu/uhs/chat

Upcoming "Chat with UHS" topics are "Tobacco" on Nov. 18 and "HIV/Aids" on Dec. 2.
