Artists speak out with 'public intervention'

November 17, 2004

A group of Penn State students enrolled in the interdisciplinary class Introduction to Women, the Humanities and the Arts (Women's Studies 003) taught by Stephanie Springgay, assistant professor of art education and women's studies, will perform a public intervention Nov. 18 to raise awareness about women's bodies in the public arena. The event will be held at 9:15 a.m. outside Willard Building, facing Old Main. Students will fuse course material on female artists, feminist studies and the history of art as political performance to untangle a web of information about body image, reproductive rights and sexual violence. The event also will support and promote the Women's Studies Undergraduate Forum, to take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, in Alumni Hall at the HUB-Robeson Center. The events are free to the public. For information, call Stephanie Springgay at (814) 865-6570 or e-mail sss23@psu.edu.
