Former Penn State DuBois student to teach in the Netherlands

Olivia Hartzfeld, a DuBois Area High School graduate and senior in Penn State's College of Education, begins her student teaching in an unusual setting. In January, Hartzfeld, the daughter of Sherri and John Hartzfeld of Treasure Lake, will travel to Utrecht University, The Netherlands, as part of a Penn State-Utrecht University student teacher exchange. She will teach social studies, in English, to students in a Dutch middle school. Hartzfeld is majoring in secondary social studies education at Penn State and is keen to take advantage of the opportunity to go abroad to experience another culture and its educational system. "This is such a great opportunity," said Hartzfeld. "I'm both excited and anxious about getting started. This will be a great experience, not only working in the classroom, but experiencing travel abroad and being immersed in another culture."
