Hip-hop theatre work 'Slanguage' evokes life of the city

January 05, 2005

Penn State's Center for the Performing Arts presents a hip-hop theatre piece called "Slanguage" at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, in Schwab Auditorium on the University Park campus. A creation of Universes, a troupe of five multitalented performers from the South Bronx, "Slanguage" unites poetry, jazz riffs, hip-hop, blues and boleros. Tracking the evolution of urban poetic language, the artists seek to integrate theater and the street with humor and emotional truth.

Tickets are $27 for adults; $15 for full-time University Park students; and $18 for people 18 and younger. For tickets and information, log on to http://www.cpa.psu.edu/ or call (814) 863-0255 or (800) ARTS-TIX. Tickets also are available at The Bryce Jordan Center, Eisenhower Auditorium, Penn State Tickets Downtown in the lobby of the Penn State Downtown Theatre Center and the HUB-Robeson Center Information.

Artistic Viewpoints will not be offered before the performance, but a conversation among the artists and audience members is scheduled to take place immediately after the performance.
