Women's track and field competes with West Virginia at open meet

University Park, Pa. -- The Penn State women's indoor track and field team hosted an open meet at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track today. The women competed against West Virginia in a non-scoring meet.

In the 55-meter dash Sophomore Kamilah Salaam took second place with a time of 7.11 and first in the 200-meter dash (24.25). Freshman Shana Cox and Dominique Blake finished first in the 400 meter dash and 500-meter dash. Cox ran the 400-meter dash in a time of 54.98 and Blake ran the 500-meter dash in a time of 1:15.86.

Freshman Stephanie Pezzullo finished first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:14.59. The 4x400 meter relay and distance meter relay teams finished first as well. Senior Brooke Robinson, Blake, Cox and junior Cheryl Green ran the 4x400 in a time of 3:48.13. Seniors Lindsay Scottoline and Karli Kotulka, freshman Nikki Bohnsack and junior Tracey Brauksieck ran the distance medley relay in a time of 12:19.23.

In the high jump sophomore Amber Strouse finished first with a mark of 5-07. Freshman Kim Peifer finished first in the pole vault with a mark of 11-02 ¼. Sophomore Kara Dickman finished first in the triple jump with a mark of 37-01 ¾. Junior Jennifer Leatherman finished first in the shot put and 20 lb. weight throw with marks of 47-01 ½ and 63-01 ½.

Next up for the women is the Penn State National Open on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 28-29, which will be held at Penn State. The meet is set to begin on Friday at 5 p.m. and 9 a.m. on Saturday.
