Babette Martino paintings to be shown at The Gallery at Penn College

The Gallery at Penn College on the main campus of Pennsylvania College of Technology will feature "Realism With a Surreal Edge," a collection of paintings by Babette Martino, from Feb. 22 to March 25.

An opening reception will take place from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, with an artist's talk scheduled at 4 p.m. Both the opening and the talk are free to the public.

After the opening, viewing hours for the show will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays or by appointment. The gallery, which is in 202 Bush Campus Center, will be closed during spring break, March 6-13.

Martino of Blue Bell earned a master of fine arts degree from the Instituto Allende of the University of Guanajuato in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; a bachelor of arts degree from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia; and a diploma from L'Accademia di Belle Arti in Firenze, Italy. She also studied with her parents, artists Giovanni Martino and Eva Marinelli, and at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia.

"I paint my environment, townscapes, with or without people," she said.

Martino has taught at the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute, Utica, N.Y.; Mohawk Valley Community College, Utica; Rome Art Association, Rome, N.Y.; and the Norristown Art League, Norristown. Her work has been exhibited in many states, as well as in Mexico and Africa.
