Religious and Philosophical Forum features Gordon Nelson Feb. 25

The Religious and Philosophical Forum at Penn State Schuylkill continues its 17th annual series at noon Friday, Feb. 25, when Gordon Nelson, associate professor of human development, will discuss "Growing Up with God: Between Religious Doctrine and Transcendent Faith."

Nelson's talk will touch on a parent's influence in a child's spiritual development -- past, present and future. He also plans to incorporate results of studies conducted on children from both believing and non-believing households.

All installments in the Religious and Philosophical Forum are free to the public in the R. Michael Fryer Conference Center on campus. For more information, call Donald Lindenmuth at (570) 385-6065.

The theme of the 2004-05 series is "American Society in Transition: Visions and Tensions." The remainder of the schedule includes:

-- March 18: "Should We All Volunteer? The Foundations of Civic Responsibility" with John Christman, associate professor of philosophy and political science, University Park; and

-- April 22: "The State of Health in Pennsylvania" with Maureen Gallo, executive director of the Schuylkill Alliance for Health Care Access.
