The dental hygiene program at Pennsylvania College of Technology has been re-accredited for the next seven years by the American Dental Association, Commission on Dental Accreditation. The dental hygiene program was first accredited in 1977 and has had approved status since that time.
The program has received approval without reporting requirements, which means that the accrediting team, which conducted a site-visit to the college, found no weaknesses. In addition, the program administrator and faculty were commended for their dedication, enthusiasm and commitment to dental hygiene education.
"I think that receiving accreditation with no reporting requirements illustrates the dedication of the faculty and staff to strive for excellence in dental hygiene education and the support from the college administration for the dental hygiene program," said Kathleen E. Morr, assistant to the dean of health sciences and director of dental hygiene.
Students in the dental hygiene program at Penn College may choose from three courses of study: a dental hygiene associate's degree, or a dental hygiene bachelor's degree with a concentration in either health policy and administration or special population care.
Graduates generally find job placement in private dental offices, health departments, correctional facilities, special-needs centers, health maintenance organizations and school districts.
All dental hygiene programs must be accredited for their graduates to be eligible to take the licensing exam. The Commission on Dental Accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit dental education programs.
