February 28, 2005

The Penn State Student Red Cross Club and the Centre Communities Chapter of the American Red Cross are preparing to "Paint the Town Red" with a gala event that includes a buffet dinner, dancing and a silent auction from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 18, in the ballroom of The Nittany Lion Inn, University Park. Student groups, such as Savoir Faire, will entertain during the evening, and a disk jockey will play music from 9 p.m. to midnight. The event celebrates March as Red Cross Month.

During the silent auction, participants may bid on lunch with the Nittany Lion, vacations on the New Jersey shore, a racquetball game with President Graham B. Spanier, a selection of sports memorabilia, gift certificates to area restaurants and other items. All proceeds from the event will benefit the local programs of the Centre Communities Chapter, including blood services, disaster relief, armed forces emergency services and health and safety education.

Tickets, which must be purchased in advance, cost $50 per person, $90 per couple and $450 per table of 10. Student prices are $30 per person and $55 per couple. For information or tickets, call the chapter at (814) 237-3162 or e-mail
