Art camps, adult classes on tap for summer

Summer Art Camps for Kids, art educational day camps for 5-year-olds to teens, sponsored by Penn State's Center for Arts & Crafts and Continuing Education, will begin in June on the University Park campus. Camps will be held in four sessions: June 20 to July 1, July 5 to 15, July 18 to 29 and Aug. 1 to 12. Participants may choose full days, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or half days, from 9 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m. Topics and themes covered include multicultural art, mixed-media, mosaics, wheel-thrown pottery, clay, art in nature, art in the animal kingdom, printmaking, papermaking, drawing, watercolor and acrylic painting, oil painting, wearable art, contemporary art, three-dimensional art, contemporary art, art history and Italian street painting.

Adult evening art classes also will be offered, with one session beginning the week of May 16 and a second session beginning the week of June 28. Classes meet once a week for two-hour sessions. Wheel-thrown pottery, watercolor, acrylic painting, stained glass, drawing, cartooning and illustration, and poetry writing will be covered.
