Sesquicentennial display at State College Municipal Building

The Penn State University Archives and the Office of University Relations have joined forces to create an exhibit detailing some of Penn State's earliest history. The exhibit is on display in the lobby of the State College Municipal Building, 243 S. Allen St., through July 24 and consists of reproductions of historical photographs and documents from the University Archives collections.

The exhibit is part of a yearlong celebration of the 150th anniversary of Penn State's founding in 1855. Beginning with the legislative act to charter The Farmer's High School, the earliest building plans and portraits of the founders, the exhibit examines the significant movements and people that brought Penn State and State College together. The exhibit allows the visitor to become acquainted with the earliest students, the construction of Old Main and outstanding local residents such as Hugh McAllister, James Beaver and James Irvin. Additional information about the exhibit can be obtained by contacting University Archivist Jackie Esposito at jxe2@psu.edu or (814) 865-7931.
