Schirm takes over as director of nursing outcomes research

Victoria Schirm began as the new director of nursing outcomes research July 1. Schirm is responsible for overseeing the resources to accomplish research, improve performance and enhance the quality of nursing care.

Schirm earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing at Penn State and completed her doctorate of philosophy in nursing at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She has held nursing faculty positions at Penn State, James Madison University, Virginia and Kent State University, Ohio. Prior to joining the medical center, she served as director of the Gerontology Nursing Center and professor of nursing at The University of Akron, Ohio.

Schirm is a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America, a John A. Hartford Geriatric Nursing Scholar and a member of Sigma Theta Tau International. She also serves as secretary on the Board of Directors for the National Gerontological Nursing Association. She has published work on the quality of care and outcomes for older adults in a number of nursing journals.
