Fall exhibits fill HUB-Robeson galleries

Two art exhibits are scheduled this fall for the galleries at the HUB-Robeson Center on the University Park campus.

A dual exhibition, "What's Your Number?," including the work of Genevieve Dorang and Clifford Lamoree will be on display from Sept. 14 through Oct. 16 in the HUB Gallery. This exhibit explores the loss of identity and privacy in an ever increasing world of technology and industrialization.

Both Dorang and Lamoree work to expose and satirize the use of bar codes and numbers as identification of everything from fruits and vegetables to newborn infants. Lamoree hopes to demonstrate the ways in which civilization has progressed and is perhaps progressing too quickly.

Paintings by JoAnne Landis and sculptures by Jim Bright will be on display in the Robeson Gallery from Sept. 22 to Dec. 4. The works of these two artists connect through their shared interest in the figure and its space.

Landis works exclusively with the figure, her main interests lie in the interactions between the physical and mystical, the internal and external. She works to create an environment which mirrors that of the internal geography of the figure with which she is working.

Sculptor Jim Bright calls central Pennsylvania home. It is here that he combines "passages from both organic and figurative sources in the same sculpture." He draws on a combination of nature and human interactions as initial inspiration and then allows these sculptures to grow into interesting interactions of positive and negative space.
