'Super Size Me' director to speak at Eisenhower Auditorium

University Park, Pa. -- Morgan Spurlock, the Academy Award-nominated documentary filmmaker behind "Supersize Me," will speak at 8 p.m. Oct. 3 in Eisenhower Auditorium as part of an event sponsored by the Penn State Student Nutrition Association.

Admission to the event is free but tickets are required. Tickets are available Monday (Sept. 26) to Penn State students (with Penn State ID). Tickets will be made available to faculty and staff (with Penn State ID) on Tuesday and the general public on Wednesday. Two free tickets will be issued on a first come, first-served basis and may be obtained the Eisenhower Auditorium box office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the days mentioned. Tickets also are distributed at the HUB-Robeson Center outlet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday at the Downtown Theatre Center.

Preceding Spurlock, a nutrition and health exhibit presented by students in the Department of Nutritional Sciences will start at 7 p.m.

Spurlock, known for infusing his insightful work with a dose of humor, won the Best Director prize among documentary entries at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival for his film "Super Size Me," which tracked his 30-day diet of nothing but fast-food fare. The film also received an Academy Award nomination, and earlier this year Spurlock authored the book "Don't Eat This Book: Fast Food and the Supersizing of America."
