Conference to explore immigrant and migrant worker health

"Blending Cultures for a Healthy Community" is the focus of the fifth annual Migrant and Immigrant Health in Rural Pennsylvania conference, which will be held April 4 and 5 at the Mendenhall Inn located in Chester. The conference is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, the Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health and Penn State Cooperative Extension.

This is the only conference in the state devoted exclusively to migrant and immigrant farmworker health. Created for producers, advocates, educators and policy makers who work or interact with migrant and immigrant farmworkers, this conference will provide information on worker protection standards, health-care issues, agricultural safety, community-based resources, advocacy initiatives and more. There also will be a tour of a mushroom farm.

The conference is featuring a total of 12 presenters, including keynote speaker, Tillman Farley, medical director, Salud Family Health Centers, Fort Collins, Colo. Farley will be speaking on "The Integration Culture and Medicine: A Clinician's Perspective."
