DuBois -- Diana Kreydt has been appointed to the position of disabilities contact liaison at Penn State DuBois.
Kreydt will work with students with disabilities to establish and maintain reasonable academic adjustments, auxiliary aids and/or services for the students while they are pursuing an education at the campus. An example of an accommodation, Kreydt said, is having the option to use a Kursweil Reader computer program that actually reads text and tests to students who have reading disabilities. Students with physical disabilities can be accommodated through priority seating and special consideration with timing and scheduling of classes, she noted. Also, students with Attention Deficit Disorder may be accommodated via alternate testing settings that minimize distractions.
"The students must self-identify their personal needs and seek out the services," Kreydt said. "Currently 22 students with psychological, learning or physical disabilities are being accommodated on campus."
Kreydt also serves as the Tech Prep transition specialist, working with regional high school students who are making the transition from high school to post-secondary education.
Kreydt has been employed at Penn State DuBois for three years. She holds a bachelor's degree in arts and psychology from Villa Maria College and is working toward her master's degree in counseling psychology from State University of New York-Geneseo. Before joining the Penn State family, Kreydt worked at the Community College of Allegheny County as the coordinator of training programs for special needs adults and as a rehabilitation counselor for the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation in DuBois, Altoona and Washington, Pa.
