The College of Education is seeking registrations for Cycle-thon 2006, a new college/community fund-raising event, scheduled for 8 to 10 a.m. Sunday, April 23, during Blue-White weekend.
The event takes riders over a scenic, 10-mile bike route loop around campus and town. It begins and ends at Sunset Memorial Park. Cycle-thon 2006 offers participants the opportunity to build community spirit while raising funds to support the College of Education's Summer College Opportunity Program in Education (SCOPE). SCOPE is a five-week academic intensive program for high school sophomores from multicultural backgrounds who are interested in a career in teaching, counseling, special education, rehabilitation or educational administration.
Registration forms for Cycle-thon must be postmarked by April 1. The entry fee is $20 per adult rider, and $10 for children under 18. An entire family can enter for $50. Complete details and registration forms are available at http://www.ed.psu.edu/cyclethon/ online.
While raising funds is not required in order to participate in Cycle-thon, cyclists are encouraged to ask family and friends to support SCOPE by sponsoring their participation in Cycle-thon. Prizes will be awarded to those who raise the most money. Participants should use the sponsorship form posted on the Web site; then, on the day of the Cycle-thon, they must bring the forms and the money they have raised with them.
Planning for Cycle-thon 2006 is being led by the Dean's Student Advisory Forum in the College of Education.
