Speaker offers a practical guide to being American in Ireland

Brian McKenzie will present "Plonkers, Eejits and Amadons: A Practical Guide to Being American in Ireland" at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, in the Atrium at Penn State Lehigh Valley. It is an ideal presentation for anyone who plans to travel to Ireland.

McKenzie is an historian of transatlantic relations and the new and expanding study of Americanization and globalization. McKenzie received his doctorate in history and his master's degree at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and he holds a bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University. His interests are in examining cultural policy and the politics of culture. Much of McKenzie's research focuses on Americanization, public diplomacy and Cold War culture in the U.S. and France. His first book, "Remaking France: Americanization, Public Diplomacy and the Marshall Plan," was published in September 2005 by Berghahn Books. Currently, he is a visiting assistant professor of history at Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA.

This event is free and open to the public. It is being sponsored by the Penn State Lehigh Valley Honors Club and the Department of Applied Psychology.
