Academic Achievement Awards Ceremony recognizes outstanding students

The annual Penn State Berks Academic Achievement Awards Ceremony was held Sunday, April 30, in the Perkins Student Center. For the first time in the history of Penn State Berks, the campus presented the Schreyer Medal Award to graduating Schreyer Scholars who had completed all the requirements of the University Park Schreyer Honors College. The three graduating Schreyer Scholars recognized at the ceremony were Leah M. Hudak, Akiko T. Mack and Laura W. Hirneisen.

In addition to receiving the Schreyer Medal Award, Hirneisen, a professional writing major from Reading, was named the 2006 Berks Scholar for having achieved the highest grade point average in a baccalaureate degree program. She also received the Creative Writing Award and the Young Investigator Award for her creative writing presentation, "Farm."

Hudak, life science major from Whitehall, received the Outstanding Internship/Co-op Student Award for demonstrating an integration of academic training and professional application through the internship/co-op experience.

Mack, a science major from Allentown, received the 2006 Boscov Leadership Award. This award is voted on by the honors students and recognizes a strong record of service to the Honors Club.
