Walking Works -- what's next?

The organizationwide spring Walking Works campaign for Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center closes on May 19. However, at that point, medical center employees can still earn additional wellness points toward their health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) by continuing a healthy habit of exercise and logging their activity through the Walking Works Web site.

Beginning June 10, any medical center employee who has completed Levels 1 through 3 of the Walking Works program can continue an individual maintenance program to earn additional points toward his or her HRA.

The maintenance program is simple. For the next six months (June 10 to Dec. 8), eligible employees must do two things: walk 5,000 steps a day at least five days per week; and record steps on the Walking Works Web site.

To access the Web site and record their steps, employees should use the same campaign code (wwsp06) they used during the past 12 weeks.

Employees, excluding self-reported exercisers, who have completed Levels 1 through 3 of the Walking Works program have already earned 175 benefit credit points and can earn another 50 by successfully completing the six-month Level 4 maintenance program.

For those who missed the opportunity to complete Level 3 of Walking Works, a fall campaign will begin in September. For questions about the program, e-mail walkingworks@hmc.psu.edu
