Electrical engineering team wins best paper award

A group of electrical engineers led by Tom Jackson, professor of electrical engineering, won the 2005 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Electron Devices Society (EDS) George E. Smith Award. Their winning piece is titled, "Pentacene TFT Driven AM OLED Displays."

According to the IEEE Web site, the George E. Smith Award was established in 2002 to recognize the best paper appearing in a fast turn around archival publication of the IEEE Electron Devices Society, targeted to IEEE Electron Device Letters.

"About 270 articles were published in Electron Device Letters for 2005, so the selection of (this) paper for the award is a strong endorsement of the quality of the work." said Ilesanmi Adesida, president of EDS.

The paper was co-authored by Sungkyu Park, Bo Bai, Jie Sun, Sheng-Chu Wu, Shelby Nelson, Diane Freeman and Yongtaek Hong.

The award, which consists of a certificate and $2,500, will be presented at the IEEE International Electron Devices meeting in December in San Francisco.
