'Penn State Football Eve' canceled due to anticipated heavy rain

August 31, 2006

Penn State has canceled Friday night's "Penn State Football Eve presented by Sheetz" due to the heavy rains expected Friday associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Ernesto. The Nittany Lions open the season against Akron on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Beaver Stadium. Parking lots will open at 8 a.m. and stadium public gates will open at 2 p.m. Fans are advised that some parking lots may be impacted by the rain and some fans may be redirected away from their usual parking area.

"Penn State Football Eve," has attracted approximately 25,000 fans to Beaver Stadium in each of its first two events in 2004 and 2005. With the anticipation for the upcoming season, University officials did not feel that any venues other than Beaver Stadium could safely accommodate the number of fans that planned to attend the free event, which features Joe Paterno, the team and fireworks.

In his 41st season as head coach, Paterno leads a squad that returns 34 letterwinners and 11 starters for this season, including returning All-Americans and 2006 co-captains Paul Posluszny and Levi Brown and 2005 All-Big Ten selections Jay Alford and Tony Hunt. A limited number of tickets remain for the Akron, Youngstown State (Sept. 16) and Temple (Nov. 11) games. The four Big Ten games are sold out. Tickets are available at http://www.GoPSUsports.com online. To purchase tickets by phone, call (814) 865-5555 or (800) 863-3336 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
