Discussion to focus on oil's hidden costs, implications

Pamela Quigley, the technical advisor to the University of California Oil Forum, will present, "Fueling More Than Just Your Car: UnEARTHing the Hidden Costs & Linkages of Our Petroleum-Fuel Economy," at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sep. 13, in 10 Sparks Building on the University Park campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Quigley holds a bachelor of science degree in petroleum and natural gas engineering from Penn State. She worked for 16 years as a BP reservoir engineer. Her experience includes supervising exploration and well testing in Alaska's North Slope, the North Sea and the Gulf of Mexico.

Quigley also served as a product line manager for BP Solar's crystalline photovoltaic plant in Frederick, Md. In 2003, Quigley left BP and became a solar energy advocate.

The talk is sponsored by the College of Engineering's Center for Sustainability and the Department of Architecture.
