Participants earn rewards through screenings, questionnaire

October 12, 2006

Penn State Hershey Medical Center employees who participate in the Medical Center's benefits plan, agree to biometric screenings and complete the Health Compass online questionnaire will receive $100 credited to their health reimbursement account (HRA). They will receive an additional $50 in their HRA if their spouse or domestic partner completes the Health Compass and participates in the biometric screening.

The free, voluntary screenings are available for medical center employees, spouses and domestic partners through Dec. 15. Medical Center employees can view a full on- and off-campus screening schedule on the bulletin page of the Infonet. Wait time runs between 60 to 90 minutes from the start of each session.

The Medical Center reminds those interested to abstain from eating and drinking for four hours before participating to ensure accurate results. If the biometric results fall within the recognized medical standards for good health, employees will receive an additional $50 in their HRA and another $25 if their spouse's biometric statistics meet the criteria.

The Health Compass online questionnaire is available beginning Nov. 1 on the employee self-service page of the Infonet. The questionnaire assesses employees' current health and risk for future disease by asking about past and current medical conditions, health behaviors and biometric statistics.
