Heard on Campus: Frank DeFord at the Forum

"America produces leisure, of which sport has the advantage of having the dual components -- both participant and spectator. Don't think for a minute either that America is an especially sports-minded country. Sports is the human condition. Wherever I've been in the world -- Indiana, India or Indonesia -- the two things I hear men say are, number one: 'We have the most beautiful women in the world right here,' and number two, 'We have the best sports fans.'"
-- Frank DeFord, Morning Edition commentator on NPR and senior contributing editor at Sports Illustrated, speaking Monday (Dec. 4) on "Sports: The Hype and the Hoopla," at The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel. DeFord's talk was the last of the fall semester for the Penn State Faculty Staff Club Forum.
