I.O. Silver Run set for April 14

Registrations are now being accepted for the Turkey Hill 10,000 Road Race (10K run) and the Jelly Bean 1/3 mile Kids Run (12 years and under) to benefit Penn State Heart and Vascular Institute at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at Hersheypark Stadium.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, accounting for nearly half of all deaths. Deaths from all other diseases in the world combined equal the number of deaths from heart disease alone. Regular exercise is one of the keys to a healthy heart, so events like the Turkey Hill 10K not only raise money for treatment and research of heart disease, but also they raise awareness of the role physical fitness plays in the prevention of the disease.

$100 will be awarded to the first place male and female. All registered participants receive a T-shirt, while supplies last, and a chance for randomly drawn door prizes. Participants must be present to win. Registration is $20 by April 7 and $25 thereafter. For information or to register, call Cindy Liddick at (717) 531-4878.

The I.O. Silver games were first organized in 1996 to honor the life I.O. Silver, who died from heart disease. The Turkey Hill 10K is an outgrowth of the games and an annual fundraiser for Penn State Heart and Vascular Institute at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. Proceeds are used for the care of patients with cardiac and cardiovascular disease.
