University Fitness Center opens new facilities

March 21 marked the official opening of the 20,000-square-foot addition to the already- existing University Fitness Center (UFC) on the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine campus. Renovations also are complete on 5,500 square feet of the existing facility.

Members from the Medical Center and College of Medicine management and staff, the Board of Trustees, the Board of Directors, Alexander Building Construction, Noelker and Hull architects and the community attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the new building.

Included in the new structure and renovations are a new cardiovascular conditioning room for faculty, students and staff at the Medical Center and College of Medicine; a larger, renovated free-weight room; new locker rooms; new class studio and personal training studio for UFC clients and a new campus conference center. A new 250 space parking lot to meet the needs of the UFC clients and conference center attendees also was built, along with an expansion to Lot A1.

"This is an exciting time not only for the staff at the University Fitness Center but for our members and patients. This amazing facility will provide us with a tremendous opportunity to grow our programs and provide the very best service to everyone who walks through our doors," said Gerise Serock, assistant director, support services.

An open house of the new facilities will be held March 26 through April 1. Staff will offer demonstrations of equipment throughout the week. Medical Center and College of Medicine employees may view a full schedule on the Bulletin page of the Infonet.
