PSES awards to honor engineering faculty, staff Friday

The Penn State Engineering Society (PSES) will recognize 11 staff and faculty members at a special ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Kunkle Activities Center.

Award recipients are lauded for their work, teaching, research, service and advising to the college. Faculty and staff are invited to attend.

The Outstanding Staff Award will be given to Sue Croyle, administrative assistant in engineering science and mechanics. This award recognizes superior service by staff employees.

Ronald P. Danner, professor emeritus of chemical engineering, and Sam Zamrik, professor emeritus of engineering science and mechanics, will receive the Distinguished Service Award. The award recognizes current or former faculty members, alumni or friends who have donated time, expertise and energies in the form of outstanding and special service to a department, unit or the college.

The Outstanding Research Award will go to Craig Grimes, associate professor of mechanical engineering. The honor recognizes notable contributions to research.

Chao-Yang Wang, distinguished professor of mechanical engineering, will receive the Premier Research Award. The award goes to an individual whose contributions to scientific knowledge through research are exemplary and internationally acclaimed.

The Outstanding Advising Award recipient will be Edward Smith, professor of aerospace engineering. The award recognizes outstanding dedication to providing guidance, motivation and inspiration to engineering students.

The Outstanding Teaching Award will be given to Todd Batzel, assistant professor of electrical engineering at Penn State Altoona; Sean Brennan, assistant professor of mechanical engineering; and M. Kevin Parfitt, associate professor of architectural engineering. The award acknowledges faculty who show a special talent and commitment to teaching.

Ali Borhan, professor of chemical engineering, and Francesco Costanzo, associate professor of engineering science and mechanics, will receive the Premier Teaching Award. The honor recognizes individuals whose engineering education or art of teaching are of exceptional quality.

PSES is the College of Engineering's alumni constituent organization.
