Staff Advisory Council seeks nominations for award program

Nominations for an award that honors Penn State staff members who go above and beyond their normal routines in resolving difficult dilemmas or who have been exceptionally creative and responsive to the needs of others are being accepted by the Staff Advisory Council (SAC).

The SAC's staff recognition and appreciation program was created to honor "staff stars," and has recognized more than two dozen staff members in the past two years.

All staff members are eligible and anyone at the University -- administrators, faculty, staff, technical service personnel or students -- may submit a nomination.

With 16,000 staff at its two dozen locations throughout the state, Penn State boasts many staff members who provide extraordinary service to the University, and to campus visitors and co-workers. Through the staff recognition and appreciation program, the SAC aims to honor the many
staff members who regularly see potential in others, go the extra mile in a specific situation and simply make life better for those around them.

Nominations forms may be found at http://www.ohr.psu.edu/sac/ online, the SAC home page. Unlike a standard award program, there is not a set nomination deadline. Nominations will be reviewed regularly, with honorees recognized at SAC meetings scheduled throughout the year.

In addition, each nomination is considered on its own merit with no comparisons among nominees. With the University's large group of talented staff, examples of those who foster a more caring and thoughtful atmosphere are abundant. Through this recognition program, the SAC hopes to point out as many of those as possible.

Created in 1995, the Staff Advisory Council, "the voice of Penn State staff," exists to explore issues, policies, and practices that impact or are impacted by staff employees; suggests revisions or new initiatives to improve same; and serves as an advocate for staff welfare and development. The council acts in an advisory capacity to the Central Administration through the Associate Vice President for Human Resources.
