Art events from the Palmer Museum of Art

The following exhibitions and educational programming will be offered by the Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State during the month of July.

GALLERY TALKS

July 13: Gallery Talk: Ansel Adams & Edwin Land: Art, Science and Invention by Joyce Robinson, curator12:10 p.m., Palmer Museum of Art.

July 27: Gallery Talk: The Art of Collage by Leo Mazow, curator of American art, 12:10 p.m., Palmer Museum of Art.

ADULT WORKSHOPS

July 28: Adult Workshop: Get in the "Zone," noon to 3 p.m., Palmer Museum of Art.
Learn the principles of the Zone approach to photography with artist Christopher Campbell. Participants will view photographs from exhibition "Ansel Adams & Edwin Land: Art, Science and Invention, Photographs from the Polaroid Collection," discuss the Zone system in terms of color management and digital printing, then embark on a photo-taking excursion on campus. Participants should bring a digital camera and a tripod.

Workshops are free but participants must pre-register by contacting the curator of education at (814) 863-9188 or dck10@psu.edu. Space is limited.

FIRST THURSDAY

First Thursday events are open to art lovers of all ages and are held in conjunction with First Thursday State College programs, sponsored by the Downtown State College Improvement District. Events at cultural institutions and art galleries are featured on the first Thursday of each month. For more information, see: http://www.firstthursdaystatecollege.org online.

July 5: First Thursday, 7 to 8:30 p.m., Palmer Museum of Art.
View the many examples of European and American portraiture in the Palmer Museum of Art galleries, then sit for a silhouette, or shadow portrait, to take home. Galleries are open. Linda Schimmel and Manya Goldstein, facilitators.
