Penn State Abington athletics director to provide color commentary for Big Ten Network

September 17, 2007

Karen Weaver, athletics director at Penn State Abington, will provide color commentary for select field hockey games featured on the Big Ten Network this fall. Weaver, a former field hockey standout at Lock Haven University and former member of the U.S. Field Hockey Team Executive Committee, will begin her work for the network at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, with a game between Michigan State and Northwestern. On Oct. 7, she will work the 1 p.m. game between Indiana and Michigan, and later in the month at 6 p.m. Oct. 26, she will provide commentary for the Penn State/Ohio State contest. While Weaver is currently employed by Penn State, she also has spent significant portions of her career in the athletic departments at Ohio State, Purdue and Minnesota, so she is well-versed in Big Ten field hockey. "I'm really excited about this opportunity, and I think my background and experience in field hockey and the Big Ten will serve me well in this position," she said. "The Big Ten conference has made great strides in its field hockey facilities in recent years, and televising these games is another step in the right direction for the conference and the sport." The Big Ten Network is currently available on DIRECTV, DISH Network and through select cable providers.
