Free health screenings and programs offered

As part of Penn State's partnership with Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College, the University community can take part in free health screenings and programs offered by the medical center.

Throughout the month of October, Mount Nittany Medical Center will offer free hearing screenings each Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the audiology department. More than 30 million Americans are plagued by some form of hearing loss, according to the Hearing Loss Association of America, and the problem affects work and family relationships, and may compromise safety. Anyone interested in this health screening should call 234-6106 to schedule an appointment.

In addition, beginning Oct. 29, the medical center will again offer a special support group for those dealing with the death of a loved one. The support group over the past 10 years has brought grieving individuals in a safe and supportive environment that strengthens the process of healing, allows participants to vent feelings of anger and allows those grieving to ease loneliness in a time of isolation. For more information about the program, call 231-7090.

In May 2006, Penn State, Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and the Mount Nittany Medical Center signed an affiliation agreement to strengthen clinical care and provide additional resources for patients in the Centre County Region. Together the three entities continue to explore ways to collaborate on behalf of the communities they serve through clinical, scientific and educational initiatives.
