Events set for Homecoming week

University Park, Pa. -- As alumni and friends return to campus to celebrate with students and University community members, a full slate of activities will mark Penn State's 2007 Homecoming week.

The Hintz Family Alumni Center will host an ice cream social featuring a performance by the Alumni Blue Band from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday (Oct. 12). At 6 p.m., the Homecoming Parade, one of the largest of its kind in the nation, gets under way. The parade features more than 100 separate units, including marching bands, floats, campus dance groups, campus and community notables and this year's grand marshal, Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers football great Franco Harris.

Following the parade, a pep rally will be held on Old Main Lawn, with athletic teams and performing groups celebrating Penn State's legacy and the coronation of the Homecoming king and queen. The annual Guard the Lion Shrine will then take place at starting at 10 p.m. at the Nittany Lion Shrine near Rec Hall.

The Penn State football team hosts Wisconsin at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Beaver Stadium in the 2007 Homecoming game.

Homecoming merchandise is on sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday in the HUB-Robeson Center.
