'Smart Talk' to feature Medical Center physician and heart patients

A segment of tonight's "Smart Talk" public affairs program on Harrisburg PBS affiliate WITF-TV will feature a live discussion on heart health with Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center physician Walter Pae Jr. The call-in program, airing at 8 p.m., will feature two patients who received heart transplants at the Medical Center and have returned to their normal lives. One patient, Jacqui Anastos, recently completed a 25-mile endurance hike.

The program also will preview the upcoming PBS series "Mysterious Human Heart," which begins at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, and continues Oct. 23 and 30. Penn State Heart and Vascular Institute (PSHVI) is the exclusive hospital underwriter of the series. Promotional announcements featuring Pae, PSHVI's program director, cardiac surgery; Mario Gonzalez, program director, electrophysiology; and Peter Alagona, program director, general cardiology; will appear before the segments focusing on their respective areas of expertise (heart failure, electrophysiology, and wellness and prevention). These announcements also will be scattered throughout WITF's programming schedule over the next three weeks.

The Lion's Eye message system in the Medical Center rotunda also will be running the program promotions and PSHVI's underwriting announcements. For information on the PBS series, visit http://www.pbs.org/wnet/heart/index.html online.
