Nittany Lion basketball 'Dinner and Dunks' to be held Nov. 1

University Park, Pa. -- All Penn State students and Nittany Lion basketball season ticket holders are invited to a night of free food, fun and prizes when coach Ed DeChellis and the Nittany Lion basketball team host "Dinner and Dunks" Thursday, Nov. 1, at the Bryce Jordan Center.

The event, originally scheduled for Oct. 24, was moved to Nov. 1 to allow the Jordan Center a free week in its busy schedule to perform arena maintenance prior to the start of the Nittany Lion and Lady Lion basketball seasons.

The doors to the Jordan Center will open at 5 p.m. and free food and drinks for dinner will be provided compliments of the Nittany Lions. Penn State students can pick up their free student section T-shirt and will be asked to fill the student section before events begin at 6 p.m. The Penn State Cheerleaders, Lionettes Dance Team, Blue Band and Nittany Lion will be on hand to perform and lead a cheer practice before the introduction of the 2007-08 Nittany Lion team.

Penn State players will pair with four students in a three-point contest before the Nittany Lion high risers take the floor for a dunk contest to be judged by a celebrity panel. DeChellis and players will address the crowd and the team and coaches will be available for autographs and pictures following the event.

The Nittany Lions also will hold a Blue-White Game scrimmage open to the public at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, in the Bryce Jordan Center prior to Penn State's Big Ten football clash with Ohio State. An autograph session with coaches and players will follow.

Penn State, picked to finish as high as fourth in the Big Ten by the Sporting News, returns four starters and its top three scorers and rebounders from last season headed by All-Big Ten honorees Geary Claxton and Jamelle Cornley. Claxton is the top rebounder (8.0 rpg) and second leading scorer (16.3 ppg) among Big Ten returners in 2007-08. Six new players will also join the Nittany Lion line-up giving Penn State its deepest and most athletic team in five seasons under DeChellis.

Penn State will play an exhibition game vs. Slippery Rock at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 7 in the Jordan Center before opening the season at home vs. St. Francis (Pa.) at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12.
