Commission for Women's Mentoring Program hosts networking presentation

The Commission for Women's mentoring program will host a presentation about developing professional networking skills from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in 121 G/H of the Outreach Building at Innovation Park on the University Park campus of Penn State. The guest speaker will be David Lindstrom, Penn State's chief privacy officer, who also serves as an affiliate faculty member with the Human Resource Development Center. All interested staff and faculty members, as well as students, are welcome to attend.

Lindstrom will lead an interactive discussion about developing and effectively using professional networking skills within the Penn State community as well as in collaborations with other educational institutions and organizations. He will discuss the importance of professional contacts, using them to an advantage, and appreciating how networking skills can improve awareness and use of available resources.

The mentoring program has guided more than 100 individuals in developing mentor-protege relationships. Monthly events are held in support of relationship building, personal and professional skill development, and improved communication within the Penn State community. Applicants may apply to be mentors or proteges during the application period, which runs from March through April each year. The program itself begins in August and continues through April for participants. To register for this event, contact Jenn Stewart at jas72@psu.edu or (814) 863-7820.
