Communications-specific job fairs connect students, employers

Two communications-specific job fairs in a 15-day span provide seniors in the College of Communications with the opportunity to meet prospective employers on campus and in New York City in late March and early April.

The sessions begin March 28 on campus with JobExpo.Comm(unications). Conducted each spring semester, the event brings businesses from a range of communications fields to Alumni Hall in the HUB-Robeson Center on the University Park campus for one day.

Bright, energetic and talented students from the College of Communications in majors such as advertising, film-video, journalism, media studies, public relations and telecommunications who attend the session meet prospective employers looking to fill entry-level positions.

Similarly, many students will travel April 11 to New York City for "Success in the City," an annual job fair conducted in the heart of a city that serves as home for many of the world's top communications organizations. Employers who participate regularly find students with practical experience who can quickly become contributing members of an organization.

"The college provides students with two effective internship and career-seeking resources -- JobExpo.Comm, offering jobs and internships in Pennsylvania and surrounding areas, and Success in the City, providing internship and career opportunities in the national as well as the global market," said Bob Martin, assistant dean for internships and career placement in the College of Communications. "Our students get an almost unrivaled opportunity to meet with prospective employers."

Last year, more than 600 students attended the two sessions, which attracted 225 recruiters from nearly 110 companies.

“We’re committed to these two job fairs specifically for our students,” Martin said. “It provides them with a chance to meet face to face with people in their field who do the hiring and take to the first step in their careers.”
