More than 30 million Americans are plagued by some form of hearing loss, according to the Hearing Loss Association of America. The problem affects work and family relationships, and may compromise safety.
"Hearing loss is often gradual, making it hard to recognize a reduction in hearing ability," according to Bev Huff, Mount Nittany Medical Center audiologist. "And often, hearing screenings, unlike eye exams, are not a routine part of health care until hearing ability dramatically declines."
