Phillips golf tournament benefits campus scholarship

The Lora Lee Phillips Foundation Trust will sponsor the 11th annual Kensington Financial Golf Classic at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at the Chestnut Ridge Golf Club in Blairsville.

Proceeds from the event are earmarked for the Lora Lee Phillips Memorial Scholarship at Penn State New Kensington. The cost is $89 and includes greens fee and cart and a special gift bag.

The Loralee Phillips Memorial Award was established in 1992 by the Phillips family as a lasting tribute to their daughter and sister's loving nature, kindness, generosity and personal commitment to "service above self." At the time of her death in an automobile accident in 1987, Phillips was a sophomore at Penn State New Kensington.

Through the golf tournament and the semi-annual Battle of the Bands competitions, more than $14,000 has been raised for the scholarship that was endowed in 1995. Chelsea Hickman was the 2007-08 scholarship recipient.
