Westvaco Executive To Present Distinguished Lecture

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- R. Scott Wallinger, senior vice president, international, of the Westvaco Corp., will present Penn State's School of Forest Resources Distinguished Lecture, "An Optimistic View of Sustainable Forestry" at 7 p.m., February 6 in 101 Agricultural Sciences and Industries Building on the University Park Campus.

The School of Forest Resources Distinguished Lecture is sponsored annually by the Glatfelter Pulp Wood Company. Wallinger's lecture will describe sustainable forestry programs at the national and international level. He also will discuss how these programs can improve the management of private and public forest lands and reduce the environmental impacts of timber harvesting.

Wallinger has worked for Westvaco since 1965, starting as a forester in the company's Cooperative Forest Management Program. He was promoted to his current position in 1991. He is responsible for the company's international product sales, its Brazilian paperboard and container subsidiary, and its domestic forest management and real estate business.

Wallinger was educated at North Carolina State University, Yale University and the Harvard Business School. He also served in the U.S. Navy. He is a Fellow of the Society of American Foresters, and is a member of the International Business Committee and the Forest Resources Group of the American Forest and Paper Association.
