Nittany Lion home football schedule sold out

University Park, Pa. — Unprecedented demand for Penn State season tickets has resulted in a complete sellout for the 2008 Nittany Lion football campaign, approaching the record-setting totals set in 2007 for public and student season tickets.

With more than 93,500 season tickets accounted for in a second consecutive year, Penn State fans have assured that Beaver Stadium will again host some of the largest football crowds in the nation this fall. Beaver Stadium is the nation's largest facility with a capacity of 107,282.

The excitement for the 2008 football season pushed Penn State season tickets beyond 90,000 for the third consecutive year in Beaver Stadium. More than 15,000 Penn State student season tickets for freshmen, sophomores and juniors sold out in approximately three minutes during each sale in June. There are more 21,000 season tickets for Penn State students.

Bud Meredith, Director of Ticket Operations, reported earlier this summer that 99 percent of current season ticket holders, tying last year's all-time high, renewed their seats for the 2008 season.

All Club seats and Roar Suites also are sold out for the 2008 season.

The anticipation of the upcoming season has also resulted in a strong demand for tickets to the Nittany Lions' five away games. A limited number of tickets remain for two of Penn State's Big Ten away games -- Purdue (Oct. 4) and Iowa (Nov. 8). Penn State's allotment for contests at Syracuse (Sept. 13), Wisconsin (Oct. 11) and Ohio State (Oct. 27) are sold out.

Tickets for the two available away games are on sale at: www.GoPSUsports.com, the official website of Penn State Athletics. Orders also can be placed by calling 814-865-5555 weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

The Nittany Lions, ranked No. 22 in the USA Today Coaches' pre-season poll, will face eight bowl teams from 2007 this fall, including five at home. Penn State opens its 122nd season on Aug. 30, hosting Coastal Carolina at 12:00 p.m. The contest will air on the Big Ten Network, the Penn State Sports Network and www.GoPSUsports.com, the official website of Penn State Athletics.

Penn State Football Eve will launch the season on Friday, Aug. 29, with activities starting at 6 p.m. outside Beaver Stadium. The program inside the stadium starts at 7:45 p.m. featuring the Blue Band, cheerleaders, dance team and videos. The seniors will be introduced and after Coach Joe Paterno's address to the crowd a new stadium video will be unveiled. The event and parking are free.

Paterno's 43rd Penn State team returns 35 letterwinners and 16 starters for the 2008 season. Penn State has won 31 of its last 40 games, tied for eighth-best record in the nation over that span.
