Penn State to hold 2008 summer commencement ceremonies

University Park, Pa. — Penn State will hold its 2008 summer commencement ceremonies at University Park on Saturday, Aug. 16, for 1,935 undergraduate and graduate students.

An estimated four associate and 1,182 baccalaureate degree students will be recognized at the undergraduate ceremony, which will feature Penn State President Graham B. Spanier as the keynote speaker. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in the Bryce Jordan Center.

Peter Hudson, director of the Huck Institute of Life Sciences and the Willaman Professor of Biology, will speak at The Graduate School ceremony, set to begin at 2:30 p.m., also in the Bryce Jordan Center. Approximately 481 master and 268 doctoral degrees are expected to be awarded.

Throughout the Penn State system, an estimated 175 will graduate with associate degrees,  1,493 will receive baccalaureate degrees and 976 will be awarded graduate degrees, for an overall total of 2,644 summer graduates at all locations.

In addition to the main commencement ceremonies, the Schreyer Honors College will recognize about 35 graduating seniors during its medals ceremony at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel.
