University Park, Pa. — The Penn State women's tennis team will begin its 2008-2009 season at the College of William & Mary Tournament Sept. 19. It is the first of their three-tournament fall schedule.
The William & Mary Tournament kicks off the fall schedule with three days of play in Williamsburg from Sept. 19 to 21. Following the trip, the team travels to the Hampton Roads Invitational, Oct. 17-19 in Norfolk, Va. The Nittany Lions conclude their fall schedule at the Yale Tournament, Oct. 31- Nov. 2.
In head coach Dawna Prevette's first season, the Nittany Lions compiled an 8-14 record. Penn State returns six players from the 2007-2008 roster, including senior Leyla Morzan (Vancouver, British Columbia) and sophomore Denisa Zobeideh (Weston, Fla.). Morzan finished 6-9 overall last season, including 5-3 in dual matches. Zobeideh finished 11-8 overall and was 7-5 in dual play.
Freshmen Michaela Stracar (Jericho, N.Y.), Allie Hefter (Longmont, Colo.), Monika Mical (Stalowa Wola, Poland) and Maria Prishlyak (Kiev, Ukraine) will join the Nittany Lions this fall.
