Wynton Marsalis and his Lincoln Center big band swing into town Oct. 9

University Park, Pa. — The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, which has attracted four of the largest jazz audiences in the last two decades at Penn State, returns in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, in Eisenhower Auditorium, University Park. The fall tour, dubbed a “big band bash,” allows the orchestra to perform an array of works from the extensive songbook of swing.
 
Tickets for the Center for the Performing Arts presentation are $43 for adults, $20 for University Park students and $36 for people 18 and younger. Marsalis, the New Orleans-born-and-bred trumpeter, composer, artistic director and educator, has an orchestra featuring 15 of the finest jazz soloists and ensemble players today. Jazz at Lincoln Center, which Marsalis directs, has become the world’s foremost cultural and educational resource devoted to jazz. 
 
The orchestra, which has released 11 albums, has toured to almost 400 cities in more than 35 countries on six continents.
 
Artistic Viewpoints, an informal moderated discussion featuring a visiting artist or local expert, is offered in Eisenhower Auditorium one hour before the performance and is free for ticket holders. Artistic Viewpoints regularly fills to capacity. Seating is available on a first-arrival basis.
