Soccer team loses one, ties one

The Westminster College Titans defeated the Beaver soccer team, 7-0, Tuesday, Sept. 23, on the Titans' field. Beaver returned to conference play when the team hosted and tied with Penn State Abington, 2-2, on Thursday, Sept. 25.

In Tuesday’s game, sophomore keeper Cameron Fertenbaugh (Cumberland Valley) left the game with 19 saves as sophomore Jesse Wory (Rochester) entered and finished with six saves. Both keepers faced a total of 32 shots on goal from Westminster’s offense.

In the game against Abington, Beaver scored in the final minutes of the first half with a goal from freshman Todd Long (Kane) with an assist from sophomore Corey Anderson (Kane). In the second half, Abington scored but Beaver came back with a goal by Anderson who was assisted by sophomores Alex Dawson (Riverside) and Isaac Shaffer (Riverside). Fertenbaugh faced four shots and saved two and Beaver’s offense had seven shots on goal. Due to lack of light, the teams could not go into overtime and settled for the tie.

Beaver’s overall record is 6-5-1 and its conference record is 6-1-1. The Lions travel Monday, Sept. 29, to Geneva College for a nonconference game at 7 p.m.
