WPSU-FM to broadcast debate among 5th District candidates

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — With only a few days until the November elections, WPSU wants to give voters a final opportunity to gather information about the candidates running for the open position in the 5th Congressional District. The three candidates hoping to replace U.S. Rep. John Peterson will face off in a radio debate set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, on WPSU-FM.

Libertarian Jim Fryman, Democrat Mark McCracken and Republican Glenn Thompson will discuss their positions on issues that are important to citizens within the state’s largest district.

Patty Satalia, longtime host and producer at WPSU, will moderate Thursday’s debate.

Fryman is the Venango County Libertarian Party chairman. He believes in a smaller role for the federal government. He favors ending the Iraq war, getting rid of corporate income tax and cutting foreign aid.

McCracken supports farmland preservation and is an advocate for a better public education system. McCracken has served on the Clearfield County Commissioners and as a board member of the Clearfield Area School District.

Thompson has experience with the Republican State Committee and the National Republican Convention Delegation. He says he supports the troops, wants tax cuts and alternate fuels, and supports providing health care for the elderly.

Audio from the first debate on WPSU-FM can be heard on http://wpsu.org/vote08/ online and this last conversation with the candidates also will be streamed live on that same Web site.
