Nittany Lions remain No. 3 in BCS standings

University Park, Pa. — Unbeaten Penn State remained No. 3 in Sunday's (Nov. 2) Bowl Championship Series standings. The Nittany Lions are No. 2 in the USA Today Coaches and Harris Interactive polls and No. 3 in the Associated Press poll.

The Nittany Lions have a BCS total of .928, trailing only Alabama (.974) and Texas Tech (.937). The Nittany Lions are followed by Texas (.853) and Florida (.826). Penn State opponents Ohio State and Michigan State are No. 11 and 18, respectively, in the BCS standings.

Penn State (9-0, 5-0) is one of only six left in Division I-A, along with Alabama, Texas Tech and Utah (all 9-0), as well as 8-0 Ball State and Boise State. The Nittany Lions have won 10 consecutive games, tied with the Crimson Tide and Utes for the nation's second-longest win streak, trailing only the Red Raiders (11).

Penn State has earned its 10th 9-0 start under Joe Paterno and is off to its best start since the 1999 squad began the season 9-0. The Nittany Lions will be seeking their ninth 10-0 start under Paterno when they visit Iowa on Saturday. The Hawkeyes (5-4, 2-3) fell at Illinois, 27-24, Saturday on a field goal in the final minute.

The Nittany Lions were idle this past week and will kick off against the Hawkeyes Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. CT. The game be an ABC regional telecast (ESPN in rest of nation) and air on the Penn State Sports Network and, the official website of Penn State Athletics.
