Wang named to 'most highly cited authors' list

Science Watch, a news Web site focusing on scientific research, has named Chao-Yang Wang, distinguished professor of mechanical engineering, one of the most highly cited authors in energy and fuels over the past decade.

Science Watch examined 94 journals with approximately 100,000 indexed publications between 1998 and 2008 to identify "the most-cited institutions, authors and journals."

Wang, who is a fuel cell researcher, ranked 18th on the list of "Highly Cited Authors in Energy & Fuels, 1998-2008." Within this decade, Wang published 39 papers in the category of energy and fuels defined by Science Citation Index and has been cited 702 times. In the same period, Wang published more than 100 journal papers on fuel cells in all categories including chemistry and materials science and has been cited more than 2,900 times.

Penn State as a whole also has established its importance in energy and fuels research. The University ranked sixth on the list of "Energy & Fuels: Institutions Ranked by Citations" with 2,870 citations between 1998 and 2008. Penn State is the top North American university on the list.
